Our Own, failed Us!( A Poem)

 Our Own, Failed Us Dr. S. padmapriya Sweet child, our own failed us, We left our home states, In search of jobs to feed our hungry bellies, Our destinies twisted by lies of our own folk,  We fled to feed our bodies and souls.... Our own failed us, dear child, We die a slow death because of our own... Our home states failed us, Our own failed us... We were left to fend for ourselves, Forced to seek jobs elsewhere, In other places, Far away from familiar sights, Smells, fragrances, feelings and fraternal ties, We almost forgot our mother tongue, We lost our sense of home and belonging, Shunted from place to place, Made migrant in our own land, As we worked in neighbouring states, Or in far away nooks and corners of, The vast land that we proudly call as Bharat, Building roads and houses, And what not for others.....  My latest bionote  Poetess Padmapriya    Dr.S.Padmapriya was born in Tamilnadu in India in 1982.  Dr.S.Padmapriya holds a Doctorate (Ph.D.) degree in Economics from the University of Madras. She taught Economics for a few years. She has been an academician, administrator and researcher. She has worked as the Principal-In-Charge of Vedantha Pre-University College at Sharada Nagar, Bangalore.     However, she has a deep and abiding passion for English Literature. She wrote her first poem in English at the age of seven in Bangladesh. Her first poem to be published was 'The Peepal Tree'  in the poetry journal ‘Poet’ in 1997 when she was fifteen.      Dr.S.Padmapriya has written poems, short stories, essays, general articles, critical articles, research articles, book reviews and forewords and they have been published far and wide.  She has four collections of poetry (‘Great Heights’, ‘The Glittering Galaxy’, ‘Galaxy’ and 'New Poems') to her credit. Litterateur Chakravarti Rajagopalachari!

Writer  Chakravarti Rajagopalachari C.Rajaji was an accomplished writer both in his mother tongue Tamil, and English. In 1922, he published a book  Siraiyil Tavam  (Meditation in jail) which was a day-to-day diary about his first imprisonment from 21 December 1921 to 20 March 1922. In 1958, he was awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award for Tamil for his retelling of the Ramayana –  Chakravarti Thirumagan . In 1916, Rajaji started the Tamil Scientific Terms Society.This society coined new words in Tamil for terms connected to botany, chemistry, physics, astronomy and mathematics. At about the same time, he called for Tamil to be introduced as the medium of instruction in schools. Rajaji was the founder of the Salem Literary Society and regularly participated in its meetings in which he suggested introducing scholarships for Dalit students.He also edited Mahatma Gandhi's newspaper  Young India.
