Short Story: Best Christmas Ever

Best Christmas Ever     Michael was a little boy whose parents seemed to be always fighting. Nevertheless they were one of those special couples, who could always get back together after every tiff. Every time, there was a clash at home, little Michael would feel wretched. But today, on Christmas Eve, matters seemed a bit different to Michael.      In the morning, his parents had given him many gifts. They were wonderful gifts. His happiness had known no bounds. Michael knew that he had no reason to complain. But now, it was evening time. Michael could hear his parents’ voices get louder and louder. His old fears returned to haunt him. Soon, Michael heard the sound of his father’s footsteps on the staircase near his room. As soon as his father entered his room, he began to speak to him. “Michael, I am going away. I am not able to get along with your mother. I don’t plan to return home, ever again.”          Michael helped his father to pack his box of belongings. Then his father left

*First Rays* Jenny woke up as the first rays of the sun fell on her face. She got up and showered. She then  prepared 'breakfast' for 'her family'. As she sat down to eat, she noticed the orange-red sun  descend into the horizon. She then realised that something was 'amiss'. She glanced at the square  clock above the main door of her house. The clock struck six times. Perhaps, it was 'evening'. Dr.S.Padmapriya

A Great Soul ( A Tribute to the Mahatma)

A Great Soul (A poem on Mahatma Gandhi) Great souls are not made In gyms or fashionable parlours but in  Foundries producing human castings; the  Soul is melted in the heat of sufferings And carefully wrought great souls are brought out. He fought imperialism by resistance with truth Satyagraha. He had a child like heart and  Said that the education of a child begins with  Conception. He shed tears at animal sacrifice Even in temples. He preached and practised ‘Ahimsa - non-violence’    ‘Brahmacharya – celibacy’ ‘Satyagraha – resistance with truth’ and ‘Aparigraha – non-possession’; Living  A righteous life and suffering. Winning  Goodwill. Rendering service in a spirit of joy.

His Excellency DR.A.P.J.ABDUL KALAM (A tribute to our beloved 'Missile Man') Published in 'Poet' By S.Padmapriya The King is the King, His empire stretches far and wide, Omnipresent in minds and hearts, Omnipotent encompassing all, He commands hearts, From atop his Raisina Throne. He does not brandish weapons, Towards none he bears ill will, He rules with his intellect, Combined with childlike gentleness, He is a man with a mission, A developed and fearless India is his vision. His vocation is science and technology, Kindness and integrity is his methodology, Poet, writer, scholar, scientist, He is many men in one 'Vision 2020', 'Wings of Fire', His ideas prolific pour strength, Igniting the minds of his countrymen. How many hurdles, Must have been crossed, To reach this zenith? Undoubtedly, an infinite! He overcomes trials every minute, His calm smiling face burying all of it. Poem: The Breaking of the Bastille

The Breaking of the Bastille Long ago, The Bastille was broken; Out emerged warriors of freedom, Chanting, ‘liberty, equality, fraternity’. Years later, Terror has struck human hearts! Humans live half-dead, And sleep half- alive; Fear is rampant here and there, Fear must be trampled, everywhere. Let us strive to reach heights, phenomenal, Making lives, sensational, Dreams come true, It takes dreams to make the truth happen. God, grant us fairy wings, A nectar- soaked soul to break unholy rings, Let us harness our creative sensibilities, Bring to suppressed people - an opportunity, To live with dignity. Happy must be young minds, Eternal joy is what it must find. Happiness is full of sensibility, Sorrow must become impossibility. We will reach our destination, A destination Worthy of inspiration! Some men can chain bodies, Who can chain the spirits? The spirits are always free! They will fly to the destination of their dreams, Screaming with maddening joy, Celebrating with stupefying

Poem : Night

Poem Night   Some silence finally descends on noisy mortals Who swim against the waves Of the day. Night... Dreams return As dimpled smiles. Night... The day sleeps Reassuringly. Night... Restorer of the spirit Unfolding its beauty. Night... Fall of the final The spirit will go home Never to return at all. But the show must go on, And a new Hero will sit On the throne, Which was one's yours. S.Padmapriya

Poem: When I Die

When I die  When I die, Keep two flowers by my side, The resting soul will think, That it is remembered by!  When I die, Don't be angry with me, I too might have erred, I am not perfect...I agree!  When I die, Don't cry, There are better things to do, Than wish the dead 'Bye'!  Still, it shall prithee my heart, That someone remembers me, Apogee or absentee, When from this Human Ruckus, I shall be finally free! A Poem for Easter

A Poem For Easter On Good Friday, The Saint Christ gave up his life, He made an ultimate sacrifice, For all of mankind to rise! The blood dripped from The Cross, Great souls let their lives talk. Three days after Holy Friday, By his resurrection, The Saint showed The Way, The message was crystal clear, Goodness can never die, Though it will be subject to many a trial!                                                 Dr.S.Padmapriya

Poem: Basant Panchami

Poem Basant Panchami  Let us fall into a reverie, A kind of sweet surreal sleep, With all of nature and existence, After the year's tiring and exhaustion.  The air brings sweet fragrances, Nature seems engrossed in communion, Basant Panchami is the beginning, Of the spring season.  Let us worship Goddess Saraswati, To fill us with creative energy, The lucky ones will take a dip in the Triveni, Let's end prejudice and hegemony.  Romantic is this season, It is not without a reason, Rati and Kama, Are coming with joyful frissons!  Dr. S. Padmapriya

Poem: Flowers 🌼🌺🌷⚘🌹🥀🏵

Flowers Flowers unplucked live longer, Maidens are like flowers, The fragrance of their beauteousness, Dissolve all differences and disturbances. 'Baran' or 'Hathras', 'Nirbhaya' or an 'Abhaya', Names of places or persons, Are of little consequence, When living souls are sacrificed, To satisfy the hunger of a perverted conscience! Not to be plucked or, Crushed, stampeded or brutalised, The wonderful flower of myriad temperaments, Remember she is, Someone's daughter, friend or sister, Wife, mother or lover! Remember - love forced, Is not real love to begin with, Flowers unplucked live longer! S.Padmapriya
