Navarathri(A Poem)

*Navarathri* Nine nights, Of splendour, Embedded in the psyche and reality, Of the India Wonder! Three Goddesses are propitiated, Durga, Saraswathi and Lakshmi, To fulfil our needs, We pray to the trinity. On Ayudha puja*, Tools and equipments, All are given rest,  For the work they do, On other days of the year, When they put in their best. On Saraswathi puja,* The Goddess of learning is eulogised, The Epitome of knowledge is our pride, Books are granted freedom for a day, To all people especially children, It feels like a wonderful holiday. Durga Pujo* is done in a manner, Best possible by our Bengali brethren, The prowess of Kali ma is uncountable, The human power is infinitesimal! Vijayadashami* is a memorable day, For when all culminates then people say, ‘Start to do the new, They will bear wings, All your dreams will come true, There is much work to do'. Dr.S.Padmapriya

A Poem: Contrition

Contrition Standing before all, Like a decadent tree, Apologetic, penitent, Worn out - sans leaves, flowers Or fruits....a struggling life pushing  And pulling against myriad forces, Beyond human control! In a state of perennial contrition, The human life filled with countless Moments of mind wrenching choices, Denials, discoveries and deviations... Just as one believes, That we may have just made it, We struggle from the beginning, Like a king who has lost to a pawn, On the chessboard of lives, As the Gods play... And smile sans contrition. Still we continue to twinkle, Though it may just be a blink, In the experience of the cosmos, That our lives are insufficient, In the blissful games of the Gods, Who deny mortals, contrition And sometimes even compassion, But why blame those above us for  Their contrition or lack of it, Pawns though we might be, Still have a chance, To take over kingdoms, On the intriguing Human chessboard?!
