Dr.S.PADMAPRIYA 

 Dr.S.Padmapriya was born in Tamilnadu in India in 1982. She has an illustrious academic track record, which culminated in a Doctorate degree in Economics at the age of 28, from the University of Madras. She has taught Economics at various academic levels for some time but her first love has always been writing. In addition, she possesses some administrative and research experience as well. She was also the Principal-in-Charge of Vedantha Pre-University College in Bangalore for a couple of months. She did her Ph.D. under UGC-JRF National Research Fellowship. Dr.S.Padmapriya is a multifaceted personality, who loves to write, draw and sing. She began writing poems in English at the age of seven, when she was residing in Bangladesh. Her first published poem was ‘The Peepal Tree’ in the international poetry journal ‘Poet’, published from Chennai, India in the year 1997, when she was 15. ‘Poet’ was edited and published by Padma Bhushan Dr.Krishna Srinivas, then President of the World Poetry Society and also a Literature Nobel Prize nominee. It was Dr.Krishna Srinivas, who gave the forewords to her first two collections of poetry. Dr.S.Padmapriya has authored three collections of poetry. They are: ‘Great Heights’, ‘The Glittering Galaxy’ and ‘Galaxy’. In his foreword to her first book of poems, ‘Great Heights’, Dr. Krishna Srinivas has said, “Padmapriya‘s faith in divinity has flowered into many splendoured verses. At this tender age, she pours out poems- Socratic in wisdom and Pindaric in excellence.” In his foreword to her second book, ‘The Glittering Galaxy’, Dr.Krishna Srinivas says: “Padmapriya’s poetry is simple but charged and profound, apocalyptic and prophetic. With epic sonority and majesty, she celebrates humanity and this universe. The entire cosmos, time and space are the canvas of her poetry and in a way it is majestic and ethereal. Her cosmography stretches beyond the bounds of nation, people and religion. Her concern is mankind, its regeneration and salvation.” In his foreword to her third collection of poems, ‘Galaxy’, Professor S.Jagapathy has said: “If Sarojini Naidu was the nightingale of Indo-Anglian poetry, Padmapriya is a waterfall. I am able to identify the speciality in her as the youthful, fresh and unalloyed fountain of a healthy world view, stamped with an Indian philosophic insight in her. I believe her passionate poetry of hope and faith against all odds must be widely read by young people of all lands, in whom the future of the world rests.” Her first two collections of poetry, ‘Great Heights’ and ‘The Glittering Galaxy’ are available in all the district libraries of Tamilnadu and Central libraries of India. Her poems have been published in journals and newspapers, all over the world for the past twenty two years. Her poems have been published in a large number of national and international journals and newspapers such as ‘The Statetimes’(J&K, India), ‘The Daily Excelsior’(J&K, India), ‘The Teenager’(Mumbai, India), ‘Bridge-in-Making’( West Bengal, India), ‘Moonlight of Corea’( South Korea), ‘Phoenix New Life Poetry’( United Kingdom), ‘Young Poet’(Chennai, India), ‘Poet’(Chennai, India), ‘Poetry World’(Chennai, India), ‘Poetcrit’(Himachal Pradesh, India), ‘Writers Editors Critics’ journal( Kerala, India) and the ‘Teesta Online International Journal of Poetry’ etc. Her poems have also been widely anthologised in many world poetry anthologies right from 1999 till now. Her poems have appeared in the book, ‘English Poetry in India’, published in Kolkata, India in 2015. Her poem has also appeared in ‘We, the World Poets’ art Bhubaneswar in India in 2001. Her short stories and articles have appeared in journals like ‘Contemporary Vibes’ (Punjab, India), Bridge-in-Making (West Bengal, India), ‘Writers Editors Critics’ (Kerala, India) and ‘Elegance’ (Mumbai, India). Dr. S.Padmapriya has not just written poems, short stories, essays and general articles but also research articles, critical articles, book reviews and forewords in English. She is currently writing an English Literary Fiction (Novel) book. She has received two letters of appreciation for her poetry from His Excellency, Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, when he was President of India. An essay on her poetry titled, ‘Young and Talented’ has appeared in ‘Femininity – Poetic Endeavours’, a book authored by the renowned bilingual writer, Dr.V.V.B Rama Rao. Articles on her poetry are available on websites like boloji.com. Dr.S.Padmapriya has been included among the ‘recent poets’ in the landmark book, ‘A Critical Survey of Indo-English Poetry’ (2016). She is also one of the 50 women poets writing in English in India, who have been covered in the colossal work, ‘History of Contemporary Indian English Poetry’, written by the renowned writer and critic, P.C.K.Prem and published by Authorspress, New Delhi(2019). She is also going to be included as one of the Love Poets of India in the upcoming anthology of poems, ‘Love Poets of India’, edited by V.V.B. Rama Rao to be brought out, soon. She is also one of the contributing poets to ‘Confluence Volume 2’ and ‘Confluence Volume 3’, books of Collaborative poetry brought out by ‘India Poetry Circle’ released in October 2018 and August 2019 at Odyssey Bookstore in Chennai respectively. Her poem on Madras has appeared in the anthology of poems, ‘Madras Hues, Myriad Views’, brought out by Team India Poetry Circle in collaboration with Team Madras Day, celebrating the 380th Foundation Day of Madras City, which was released in Odyssey Bookstore in Chennai in August 2019. What she writes about: Her poems cover all aspects of life and existence. She uses the platform of poetry to communicate her message of Truth and righteousness. For her, ‘Goodness is God’ and ‘Compassion is the greatest religion’.
